After the graduation of the first batch of computer and sewing course trainees on 28 January and 16 February 2010 respectively from the Imam Ja’far al-Sadeq Skills Training Center for Refugees in Qum, LFT/IRAC began to accept applications for the second course. The second sewing course began on 9 March and is expected to last until the end of June. The beginning of the second computer course was delayed until 25 April due to organizational difficulties and is expected to finish in the first half of June. Dear LFT donors: Please, continue to support this program. IRAC’s training courses offer standard professional training to refugees who would otherwise be unable to pursue a vocational training course. Read More
Medical Referral Program:
98 patients were treated in April on the medical referral program, raising the total to 5,313 patients treated between October 2005 and April 2010. One patient treated was a 13year old haemophiliac patient, whose father barely has enough money to provide food and shelter for his family, never mind affording his son’s healthcare. The need remains overwhelming for Iraqi and Afghan refugee patients. Please, continue to donate to this project. Read More
Iraq:
Orphan care:
The number of needy orphans in Iraq is perhaps greater than that in any other country. No amount of financial assistance will ever be able to replace the loss of a mother or father, however, with a mere GBP 10 per month, you can at least ease their poverty and enable them to rebuild their lives, as well as gain blessings for yourself. There are currently 350 Kerbala orphans under our present scheme. Read More
Healthcare:

Education
Lft has received an appeal to support 100 orphans in the Ali Chopan, in Mazar-i-Shariff city through the development of an orphanage. Many families living here have migrated from various parts of Afghanistan due to civil war and conflict, drought and death of the head male householder. This has resulted in there being many poor families – approximately 6,000 families. Out of these 6,000 families about 700 families are Widow Families and in total there are about 3,000 orphans crying out for help. Currently, these orphans do not receive any kind of formal support and so are desperately in need of our support to give them a fighting chance of achieving a successful adult life. Read More

Education
In January 2007, LFT began to support the long-term treatment of 64 severely handicapped children in Lebanon. Our partner, the Philanthropic Association for Disabled Care (PADC) has a well-equipped treatment centre where children receive, among other treatments, speech therapy, and physiotherapy, therapy for disorders of movement, psychotherapy and occupational therapy. As PADC is a non-governmental organization and does not receive support from the Lebanese government, families need to pay for treatment cost. Many young patients come from poor families; other families have more than one handicapped child. Such families are unable to pay the full price of treatment and need assistance. It costs £3000 per child per month to provide them with the treatment they deserve. Read More
Healthcare:
In 2009, LFT assisted a 6year old boy who was born without limbs, obtain prosthetic legs. Thanks to your generosity, he can now walk, run and play normally with his friends in school. However, he still needs constant medical monitoring and rehabilitative care to learn to fully control his new limbs. Along with 73 other beneficiaries, this little boy receives assistance with the cost of physiotherapy sessions in a rehabilitative center for disabled children in Nabatiyeh. Dear LFT donors: many other children are waitintg for this opportunity, missing out on the possibilities life has to offer. In a video taken in 2009, shortly before this little child’s legs arrived, he expressed a wish that every child be given the chance he was. Please, donate generously to make this wish come true. 360 poor patients received the Gift of Sight in the first quarter of 2010, and 5,034 have been preserved since the start of this project. The statistics for LFT’s eye program in Pakistan shows that 41.3 per cent of patients were in the 41 to 60 years age bracket, the age of prime productivity for most people. Dear LFT donors: We cannot even begin to estimate the value of the gift of sight. It costs only 15.00 GBP to give this gift to a poor person. Read More
Humanitarian Relief:
An artificial lake formed in Pakistan’s northern Hunza valley near a village known as Ataa-abad is expected to break and flood the region by end of this month. In a public assessment given by Pakistan army’s top engineers, anywhere between 30 to 36 villages could be affected by the flood. Our partners in Pakistan, MICT have compiled a comprehensive set of data. MICT estimates that up to 5,136 people living in 26 villages are especially vulnerable to effects of the expected flood. In a region where most inhabitants live a largely nomadic life style relying mainly on agriculture and raising of livestock as their main source of income, the flood will not only cause significant damage to scores of homes, but may also destroy their main sources of income for times to come. Through this appeal, we urge LFT’s donors to step forward and support our appeal for the victims of the coming flood in northern Pakistan. Read More
Education:
LFT is seeking financial support for a batch of 24 intelligent students from across Pakistan who are pursuing education at levels ranging from high school to university.
MICT, LFT’s partner organization in Pakistan, believes that all of these students deserve to be supported as they are too impoverished to afford their education on their own.
With your timely support, we can help these students to achieve not only successful careers through the completion of their education but also the promise of long term economic independence for their families. Read More
