Appeal to assist Orphans at Kibowa Orphanage Centre, Lemara, Arusha, Tanzania
A registered orphanage located just outside Arusha town, houses 48 orphans. 8 more children stay as day children at the centre, and go back to their grandparents at night.
Total number of Orphans: 48. This is made up of 27 girls and 21 boys. All are aged between 4 to 19.
9 Orphans attend High School whereas 31 attend Primary and the Balance 8 attend Nursery school.
This centre is run by a group of ladies dedicated to improve the life of the less fortunate. All children attend secular schools during the day, and have an additional facility of attending Quran classes, in the evening.
The centre has so far been able to muster up some funds from local donors to look into their daily requirements, but is still in need of more to make the children’s life comfortable. For their accommodation, the centre has rented a place in Lemara area. They had six rooms for all the children and an office cum store. Recently it was increased to eight rooms, thanks to the efforts of some school children who raised funds.
The children’s main requirements are food, electricity, and water. Most of the children attend government schools, and as education up to primary level is free in Tanzania, there is no additional burden to raise school fees. Some attend private schools, and their fees are being paid by volunteers who come from abroad.
Medical facilities are being provided by the government hospitals, through Arusha Municipal Council.
The centre has recently undertaken a poultry project. With the expertise available locally, they are hopeful to decrease their costs through income from this project. The Trust has also suggested to look into Goat Farming to generate more income so that they become self supporting.
LFT donors are requested to donate generously towards the cost of food US$ 265.00 / GB£ 168.00 per month
