LFT Charity Gala Dinner 2009 :
Dr Swee Chui Ang is a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon in Barts and the Royal London Hospitals. She started life as a pro-Israel fundamentalist Christian, and an Arab hater. In 1982, when Israel ruthlessly bombed and destroyed half of Lebanon killing many women and children, as well as civilian men, Dr Ang volunteered to work as surgeon for the British Charity Christian Aid. On her arrival in Lebanon, she discovered that the Lebanese and Palestinians were kind and gentle people, and that they had suffered severe injustice in the hands of the Israelis. She was working in Gaza Hospital in Sabra and Shatilla Palestinian refugee camp, when the massacre took place and thus is a survivor and witness of the Sabra and Shatilla massacre.
Dr Chui Ang returned to the UK and helped start the organistaion Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
In 1988 - 1989, Dr Chui Ang joined the UN and worked in the Gaza Strip during the First Palestinian Intifada. She visited Gaza earlier this year, after the 22 day savage assault on her by Israel.
