Even though the security situation in Iraq is much better than before incidents still occur and people are hurt and maimed for life on a daily basis. As a result the number of disabled people in Iraq is much higher than in any other place in the world.
As a result of all your support, the clinic is serving the needs of so many of our deserving brothers and sisters, young and old, not only treating disease, but also creating opportunities particularly for the children, which may not have existed previously.
The number of needy orphans in Iraq is perhaps greater than that in any other country. Iraq has suffered under a brutal dictator for more than 25 years, and continues to suffer from insecurity and internal strife. Every day, fathers die due to avoidable causes and small children are deprived of their love and care as well as their financial support.
Container No PONU7697696 arrived in the port of Umm al-Qasr on 12 December 2009 but its release was delayed until 1 January 2010 due to difficulties with the health certificate.
During the third quarter of 2009, LFT continued to sponsor 150 orphans in Najaf and 100 orphans in Basrah. LFT’s representatives in these cities visit the orphans’ homes during every distribution and monitor the families’ economic situation.
Alhamdulillah it has been yet another busy month, with a high volume of patients attending the clinic. As a result of all your support, the clinic is serving the needs of so many of our deserving brothers and sisters, young and old, not only treating disease, but also creating opportunities particularly for the children, which may not have existed previously.

The people of Iraq continue to suffer, enduring harsh conditions within their home country. This project aimed to help poor and needy families by distributing food baskets during the holy month of Ramadhan. IRAC distributed food baskets to 2,096 extremely needy families in seven Iraqi cities. The distribution took place in the cities of in Karbala, Najaf & Diwaniyah, Al Kut, Emara, Basra and Baghdad. While this project did not eliminate the suffering of the benefiting families it did give them a glimmer of hope during the days of fasting and prayer. Funding for this project came from the Lady Fatemah Charitable Trust, based in England.
Two containers filled with well-preserved second hand clothing arrived in the Iraqi port of Um al-Qasr on August 1, 2009. Due to bureaucratic problems, it took a week to release the containers from customs. Both containers were taken to IRAC’s office in Basrah on August 9, where sorted the clothing, separating items for grown-ups from those for children and sorting children’s items according to sizes. An individual pack was then prepared for each benefiting family according to the detailed data that had been collected in advance.

During the holy month of Ramadhan, devout Muslims all over the world strive to attain greater perfection of faith. We refrain from eating and drinking between dawn and dusk, carefully avoid to commit haram actions and recite the Qoran to gain greater rewards from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. In this hadith, the holy Prophet shows us an additional way to gain Allah’s pleasure during the holy month: By making it “spring” for the poor. Many believers habitually make donations to institutions that provide food assistance to poor Muslims during the month of Ramadhan. You, LFT’s always so generous donors, have been at the forefront of these efforts for many years.
LFT received Appeal from Widows of Emara, Iraq having 650 Orphans

The ancient city of Emara is the capital of the south-eastern Iraqi province of Meisan. Situated on the banks of the Tigris river about 320 kilometres south-east of Baghdad and a mere 50 kilometres from the Iraqi-Iranian border, Emara has been known for its affluence and beautiful architecture for centuries. Today, however, Meisan province and its capital Emara belong to the poorest parts of the country due to Saddam’s oppressive regime and his neglect of provinces with a Shia majority. In addition, Emara’s infrastructure has still not recovered from destruction caused by the Iraqi-Iranian war, when the frontline went straight through the city.

Families who live below the poverty line have to make cuts even to the food budget in order to survive. Presently, meat costs between 13,000 and 14,000 Iraqi Dinar (equalling 7.60 to 8.20 USD) per kilogram and more and more families cannot afford it. However, protein-deficiency can result in serious health problems, especially among children. Children who consume too little protein are liable to suffer from reduced growth and weight, liver problems, anaemia and mental retardation. Therefore, IRAC and its generous partner LFT believe that their joint project of monthly meat distributions in Karbala should not only be continued but, if possible, expanded. In Rajab 1430 Hijri, 128 poor families (976 persons) were the beneficiaries of this project. 83 families (485 people) were Sadah and 85 families (491 people) were Non-Sadah. Each family has received a package of approximately 1.25 Kg of fresh meat that was delivered to their doorstep by IRAC’s staff members and representatives. Very big families were given two packages.
