LFT Pemba Zanzibar – Educate to empower!
Thousands of schools children in Zanzibar spend long periods sitting on the floor during their school days making the learning experience very debilitating and uncomfortable.
The LFT is training teachers to increase their effectiveness in the classroom and will additionally be rolling out mental health first aid to teachers and education leaders in Zanzibar.
Now, teaming up with a variety of local partners, the LFT has been able to create a training program for carpentry for 100 school desks for two students each to be manufactured each month for 24 months!
This gives income to 30 carpenters over the two year program to be trained and upskilled to make these desks and other supplies for schools and other everyday items.
Each two seater wooden desk will cost (US$75/£60/C$100/A$115) to manufacture from sustainable sources. This includes the cost of purchase of raw materials as well as the training and labour to manufacture and transport to deliver to the schools.
That’s £60 per desk, £1,200 per class or £9,600 per school.
Will you make this transformational change for the lives of thousands of schoolchildren whilst empowering carpenters to grow their livelihoods with wider skills?
