On 15th Ramadhan, we mark the blessed birth of Imam Hassan ibn Ali (as), a life remembered for generosity, mercy, and giving for Allah without hesitation. He was the first child of Imam Ali (as) and Lady Fatemah (sa) – the night Lady Fatemah (sa) became a mother to her first child.
So today is not only a celebration of generosity, it is a reminder to honour and protect motherhood.
Imam Hassan (as) is not remembered only for what he gave, but for how he gave: with dignity, with gentleness, and with a heart that protected others.
Real generosity isn’t only a moment, it’s protection.
At Lady Fatemah Trust, we believe the most meaningful generosity is the kind that protects a mother and strengthens her home, in ways that last beyond one night and one month.
This is how your generosity lives on today through three strands of work:
1) Makunduchi Maternal Hospital: safer pregnancies, dignified deliveries
In southern Zanzibar, distance can mean danger. We are supporting a purpose-built 28-bed maternal hospital in Makunduchi, in partnership with the Jaffer Family Foundation and the Fumba Port Foundation, to bring skilled care closer – improving antenatal support, ensuring dignified deliveries, and strengthening postnatal care when time matters most.
Ramadhan match-funding for mothers & babies (Every Pregnancy):
We’re honoured to share that Lady Fatemah Trust is part of the Every Pregnancy coalition. This Ramadhan, eligible donations towards Makunduchi maternal care will be match-funded – meaning your donation is topped up by at least 30% (in addition to Gift Aid where eligible) – helping protect more mothers and babies through the same act of giving.
2) Mothernomics™: dignified livelihoods for mothers
Imam Hassan (as) gave in a way that restored dignity. Through Mothernomics™, we do the same: supporting mothers with skills, tools, and market access so they can earn, provide, and rebuild stability for their children, not through dependence, but through dignity. (Donate to Mothernomics™)
3) Maendeleo: food security and resilience for the home
A mother’s heart is steadier when the home is nourished. Through Maendeleo, Regenerative Farming, in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation, communities learn climate-resilient farming and nutrition skills so families can grow food reliably, improve wellbeing, and build sustainable income over time, a pathway from short-term need to lasting strength. (Donate to Maendeleo)
Give in honour of Imam Hassan (as)
Tonight, we invite you to be part of generosity that protects, the kind that keeps a mother safe, keeps food on the table, and keeps a family standing.
Give, in honour of Imam Hassan (as).
