A week ago, the LFT enabled a visit by the leading specialist in maternal health Prof Arri Coomarasamy from rheumatologist University of Birmingham to visit our maternal health programs across the islands.
Prof Arri Coomarasamy who came out as an LFT consultant volunteering his time and and expertise showcased how his research, cited by the WHO and funded by the Gates Foundation would enable the eradication of the deaths of mothers from Post Partum Haemorrhage, the #1 cause of maternal mortality globally.
In just seven days:
1- the use of the e-motive including the drape has been incorporated in the Zanzibar Heath Ministry guidelines for safe births
2- the Minister of health is delighted (as evident from the picture above) and accepts the costs of the continued care package for all births in Zanzibar after the pilot six months rollout by LFT
3- LFT will supply the first batches of the bundles and training through local practitioners to all centres where mothers give birth and show impact to the local Ministry and all practitioners globally.
4- Zanzibar is poised to be the first territory to eliminate PPH as a leading cause of maternal deaths
Further
5- we continue to address issues such as foetal risk with cutting edge AI technology being investigated from Texas currently being used in Malawi
6- access to ante natal Hb testing must be the next priority across Zanzibar to identify anaemia no later than 24 weeks
7- we will also support the stake holder to having a long term plan for tackling maternal and early childhood anaemia
