Deaf children deserve mental health support they can fully relate to. At The Lady Fatemah Trust, we believe inclusion starts with accessibility. We’re working with Deaf Reach to deliver Mental Health First Aid training across eight schools in Pakistan, using resources developed in Pakistan Sign Language. Child Protection Officers and teachers are empowered through this program to gain the confidence to support pupils’ wellbeing, creating safer, more inclusive classrooms. The programme now reaches participants from diverse backgrounds across all eight campuses, from Karachi to Lahore. So far, 213 Deaf and hearing staff have completed Module 1, building a strong evidence base to track progress ahead.

Every Child Deserves
Accessible Support
This programme runs on a train-the-trainer model. Child Protection Officers receive specialist Mental Health First Aid training first. They then pass this on to teachers in their own schools. Training is delivered in bite-sized modules, covering mental health awareness, stress management, safeguarding and early intervention. Everything is developed in Pakistan Sign Language, so no one is left out.

Communities Who Honour Wellbeing
Mental health support only works if people can access it. That’s why every resource in this programme is built in Pakistan Sign Language, from the ground up. Staff across eight schools, Deaf and hearing, are learning together, in a language they understand. It’s a shift in direction, with a meaningful and lasting impact.
This programme has been life-changing. It’s given me real tools to handle life’s challenges, and shown me how closely mental health connects to overall wellbeing. Investing in your mental health benefits you — and your whole community.”

Growing Support Beyond the Classroom
This programme is just getting started. Next, we hope to reach parents and students directly, alongside more schools across Pakistan. The goal stays the same: mental health support that’s truly accessible, for every Deaf child and the people who care for them.
